Preview: First still from Elements Cinephotography Project

The above is a still from the cinephotography project that Shawn Nelson and I are collaborating on, exported from 5K RAW footage into my existing digital workflow.

To give you an idea of the scope of the project and what’s to come (hint: an exhibition featuring a video piece - that’s currently being edited - with accompanying stills), take a look at this Behind the Scenes sneak peek shot by Kenny Allen: http://vimeo.com/m/59957146.

The project is moving along nicely, as I am continuing to work through the stills, and our editor Will is working with our composer to really dial everything in.

I’ll be posting more stills in the coming weeks.

Whiskey Shots

I had a hard time not doing whiskey shots while doing whiskey shots.  (I ended up doing a whiskey shot)

How did you spend YOUR Saturday?

And if you were wondering how this was lit, I had two strobes behind the subject with 3 degree grids, feathered so that they were just glancing the edges of the rocks glass.  I had a snoot (with a 3 degree grid) on a boom arm slightly to camera left, pointing down at the rocks glass. I had a lamp stocked with warm incandescent bulbs below and behind the subject, and I brought the shutter down to 1/20th and below to bring in that light.  Small softbox behind and to camera left for a bit of fill.

Enjoy!

Model - Heather Kara | Q6 Model Management

—————————————————————————————

This was a fun studio and location shoot with Heather Kara from Q6 Model management.  For the studio images below, I used the 7” Westcott parabolic umbrella and I have to say, for right around $100 those things are fantastic.

After shooting in the studio, the team piled into a minivan and hit 4 locations around the Portland area.  The architecture combined with the early March sunlight gave me some great opportunities to play with shadow and pattern.  Angles and pattern out on location were enhanced by Nikon’s 24mm 1.4G.

Heather was great to work with and brought exactly the look, expression and mood this concept called for.

As a favor for a friend who is starting an interior design company, I thought I’d try my hand at some interior/architectural photography.

Here’s the a Behind the Scenes sneak peek of ‘The Elements Within’, a cinephotography project I did along with my collaborator Shawn Nelson! This is the BTS, actual footage/stills coming later via an event exhibition.  I’ll keep you posted on the details there.
